With Its New Game “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Your Money!”, FLI Marks Global Money Week 2021 FLI, education, teachers, financial literacy, innovative educational methods

FLI’s new game is dedicated to the theme of this year’s edition of the global initiative “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Your Money!”. Its message is that through responsible behavior and care for ourselves, our health, our belongings, and the environment, all of us—both children and adults—can support the family budget. Suitable for use at home, in the classroom, in a library, or in a community center, the game can involve children, parents, teachers, and educators.

Here is the game “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Your Money!”:

1. Prepare slips of paper with written statements, for example:

  • I brush my teeth regularly!

  • I am careful not to break my phone!

  • I always turn off the lights when I leave the room!

2. The participants are divided into pairs: a child and an adult.

3. Each child draws one slip of paper, reads the statement, and answers the question: “What will happen if I don’t do this?”

4. Then the adult comments on the question, points out possible expenses or potential savings resulting from the situations, and provides specific calculations and examples.

5. Everyone discusses together how, through responsible behavior, they can support the family budget.

Global Money Week is an annual global campaign dedicated to financial literacy for children and young people, conducted under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Since its first edition in 2012, 175 countries and 63,000 institutions have taken part in the initiative.
