Rossitza Wartonick Appointed Bulgaria's National Financial Literacy Ambassador under the European Commission Initiative

Rossitza Wartonick, Founder and Director of the Financial Literacy Initiative Foundation, has been appointed as one of Bulgaria's National Financial Literacy Ambassadors under the European Commission's initiative to establish a European network of National Financial Literacy Ambassadors.

The network is one of the key initiatives of the EU Financial Literacy Strategy, adopted by the European Commission in 2025 as part of the Savings and Investments Union. The Strategy aims to support Member States in improving financial literacy through the exchange of good practices, European awareness campaigns, the development of partnerships, and wider access to reliable educational resources. Its overarching objective is to help European citizens make informed financial decisions, manage their personal finances more effectively, and make better use of saving and investment opportunities.

Bulgaria will be represented by two National Financial Literacy Ambassadors – Rossitza Wartonick and Ani Dimitrova, Advisor to the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank. As members of the European network, they will promote financial literacy, contribute to the exchange of good practices among Member States, and encourage greater public engagement and cooperation among institutions and organizations working in this field.

For the Financial Literacy Initiative Foundation, this appointment recognizes more than twenty-five years of dedicated work to advance financial education in Bulgaria. Over the years, the Foundation has developed educational programs and practical learning resources for different age groups, trained teachers and librarians, introduced innovative interactive learning methods, and implemented national campaigns and initiatives in partnership with public institutions, businesses, the education sector and civil society.

Among the Foundation's flagship initiatives is the nationwide program "Let's Spin the Money Carousel – Together!", which in 2026 reached more than 100 communities across Bulgaria. Through its innovative educational format and its vision of making financial literacy a cause embraced by the whole community, the initiative brought together thousands of children, parents, teachers, librarians and volunteers.

Rossitza Wartonick's new role provides an opportunity to showcase Bulgaria's practical experience at the European level while bringing successful practices from other EU Member States to Bulgaria. Participation in the European network also creates new opportunities for cooperation among public institutions, businesses and civil society organisations in advancing financial literacy across the country.

"I accept this role with gratitude, but also with a clear sense of the responsibility it carries. Financial literacy cannot be built by a single institution or organisation; it is the result of the collective efforts of people, communities and partners who believe that every child and every adult deserves access to high-quality financial education. I hope that through this European network we will strengthen cooperation, exchange good practices and ultimately create more opportunities for people in Bulgaria to build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed financial decisions," said Rossitza Wartonick.
