A Successful Finale of the Financial Literacy Academy

Innovation, motivation, broad outlook, and teamwork skills – all this and much more were demonstrated by the participants in the Financial Literacy Academy 2024. For nearly a week (3–9 March), they worked on their ideas for innovations in the field of digital financial services and financial literacy, attended engaging lectures, responded to intriguing challenges, and built new connections and friendships.

The organiser of the inspiring initiative was the Education 5.0 Foundation, in partnership with the Financial Literacy Initiative Foundation (FLI) and the entrepreneurship club “Successful People” at “Baba Tonka” High School of Mathematics, Ruse. The general sponsor of the initiative was DSK Bank, and “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse provided modern halls and learning spaces.

Nineteen teams from the following educational institutions took part in FLA2024: Bleiker VGS – Asker, Norway; “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School – Mezdra; “Vasil Levski” Secondary School – Ruse; “Friedrich Schiller” Secondary School with Intensive Foreign Language Studies – Ruse; “Hristo Botev” Secondary School – Ihtiman; “Aleko Konstantinov”High School of Foreign Languages – Pravets; “Dimitar Talev” National High School – Gotse Delchev; “Exarch Antim I”Secondary School – Kazanlak; “Acad. Kiril Popov” High School of Mathematics – Plovdiv; “Baba Tonka” High School of Mathematics – Ruse.

On 6 March, all participants received a case study for which each team had to propose an innovative concept for a digital financial product or service addressing specific market needs. A mandatory requirement was that the ideas be innovative, feasible, and tailored to a clearly defined target audience.

On 9 March, the teams presented their projects to a jury consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr James Yolovski – Doctor of Economics from UNWE and lecturer in financial disciplines at VUZF – Sofia; Rositsa Vartonik – Founder of the Financial Literacy Initiative Foundation (FLI); and Assoc. Prof. Dr Svilen Kunev – lecturer at the Department of “Management and Social Activities” at the Faculty of Business and Management of “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse.

The winners of the Financial Literacy Academy 2024 are as follows:

FIRST PLACE went to Wealthloopers, consisting of Boris ZarkovGeorgi GeorgievEkaterina KyurkchievaKonstantin Bilalov, and Teya Chobanova from “Baba Tonka” High School of Mathematics – Ruse, with mentor Neli Tihomirova.

SECOND PLACE went to GenZ, consisting of Aleksandra VelikovaEvalina ChenkovaElitsa KostadinovaMarina Petrova, and Martin Velikov from “Baba Tonka” High School of Mathematics – Ruse, with mentor Neli Tihomirova.

THIRD PLACE was shared by two teams:

WinSoft, consisting of Aleksandar Slavov and Mihail Georgiev from “Baba Tonka” High School of Mathematics – Ruse, with mentor Neli Tihomirova;

“Ivan Vazov” Secondary School – Mezdra, consisting of Viktoriya NenovskaYoana DimitrovskaManol KamenovNikola Vasilev, and Tereza Angelova, with mentor Gergana Ivanova-Kostova.

FIRST PLACE for presentation and innovative idea was awarded to FFF Power, Bleiker VGS, Asker, Norway, with mentor Bjorn Kildahl.

The future looks promising when we observe how Europe’s young people think, act, and communicate with one another.
