Project “My Life, My Finances” – Financial Literacy for Youth

The project “My Life, My Finances” aims to improve the financial literacy of upper-secondary students, a crucial skill as they transition to independent life.

It is implemented by the Financial Literacy Initiative Foundation in partnership with Junior Achievement Bulgariaand experts from the financial portal “My Money”.

The project is funded under the NGO Support Program in Bulgaria through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.

unique educational program on personal finance for students was developed as part of the project. It is taught by 16 trained teachers and covers 300 students from 11 cities in Bulgaria. The curriculum includes topics such as financial planning and budgeting, credit, saving and investing, basic financial products and services, employment relations, and social security. The pilot program was introduced during the second semester of the 2013/2014 school year.

The program is practically oriented and delivered in a youth-friendly, engaging way, featuring videos, teaching aids, practical case studies, and group discussions. Its effectiveness is measured through specially designed pre- and post-tests, which showed a doubling of financial literacy among participating students.

On September 12, 2013, a roundtable was held as part of the project, focusing on the need for financial education for young people.
