Trainings: Innovative Financial Literacy under the Program “ABOUT MONEY AND OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS: FIRST STEPS”
I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The program is designed for teachers at the primary level of school education and presents innovative and engaging approaches, materials, and tools through which key social as well as introductory economic and financial competencies are developed in children. It addresses topics such as basic financial and economic literacy, professions and entrepreneurship, introductory financial planning and budgeting, saving, and spending money. The program focuses on building qualities such as initiative and entrepreneurship, as well as on the development of emotional intelligence and personal motivation. Its application supports the development of skills that are particularly important for the 21st century—critical thinking, teamwork skills, presentation skills, communication, and creativity.
II. APPLICATION OF THE PROGRAM
The program is suitable for independent use in classes and formats preferred by teachers, as well as as a practical tool enriching the content of general education in the subject Technology and Entrepreneurship in grades 1–4.
III. TRAINING DESCRIPTION
During the training, educators will acquire knowledge and develop skills for teaching and building these key competencies. The delivery of knowledge and skills is based on the pedagogical approaches “Learning through Experience” and “Learning through Play,” as well as through role-playing and theater. Teacher training includes both theoretical preparation and practical activities through piloting activities. Participants are provided with a guide containing theoretical and informational materials, scripts for theatrical performances, methodology for conducting active learning sessions, as well as guidelines and supporting materials.
Teachers are given the opportunity to introduce new, engaging, and effective approaches into their practice, which support the development of basic financial, economic, and civic literacy among students, as well as so-called 21st-century skills.
IV. GUIDE AND MATERIALS
A guide has been developed for the program, consisting of ten workshops. Nine of them form a logically connected series of active games on a specific topic, while the tenth is a lesson-performance. The total number of games exceeds 25, each of which can be used either in combination with the others within the same topic or independently. The games are developed as detailed scenarios. Guidance for the teacher, as well as the key messages and learning content, are incorporated into the activity plan and follow its logical progression, with the aim of facilitating the teacher’s work. The workshops include all necessary instructions and materials for their implementation. The lesson-performance presents a detailed theatrical script with comprehensive guidelines, including an informational component.
During the training, participants are provided with the guide and additional informational and educational materials.
