Trainings: Innovative Financial Literacy under the Program “ABOUT MONEY AND OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS: TEEN”

I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program presents innovative and engaging approaches for building key competencies among students—financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and initiative—as part of their personal development and civic competencies. It is designed for teachers at the upper secondary level of school education and is also suitable for homeroom teachers.

During the training, teachers will acquire knowledge and develop skills for teaching and building these key competencies through the program “About Money and Other Important Things.” The program is primarily focused on developing practical knowledge and skills in personal finance management among students, enabling them to make rational financial and life decisions and to address more effectively the challenges of the modern world.

Thematically, the program “About Money and Other Important Things” covers essential aspects of personal finance management and career guidance, such as budgeting, the use of borrowed funds, investments, risk management and insurance, pension provision, choosing further education and career paths, and entering the labor market. Through the lens of personal finance, the program also addresses topics related to traveling abroad, love, and friendship.

Teachers have the opportunity to introduce new, engaging, and effective approaches into their practice that support the development of basic financial, economic, and civic literacy among students, as well as so-called 21st-century skills.

II. APPLICATION OF THE PROGRAM

The program has wide applicability. It is suitable for use both in specialized economic subjects and in general education subjects, during homeroom classes, and in other instructional formats.

III. TRAINING DESCRIPTION

Guidance for the teacher, as well as the key messages and learning content, are incorporated into the activity plan and follow its logical progression, with the aim of facilitating the teacher’s work. “Competent, engaging, convincing, flexible, and inspiring!”
“Professional, useful, and very interesting!”

On the results of using the workshops in class:

“Students accept them with genuine interest and engagement, find them very useful and very practical. We continue with the same enthusiasm!”
“I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the way the workshops affected the students (and us during the training), because they really work. I tested the workshop ‘Credit Offers: Compare and Decide.’ It provided valuable information and helped them realize whether it is worth using borrowed funds for things they do not really need, and if they do need them, how to make an informed decision and seek the best alternative for themselves.”
“With my students, we carried out the financial workshop ‘Big Budget, Small Budget.’ They really liked this game, and in the future I will continue with the other games as well.”
